A South African court has sentenced 53-year-old Enoch Ndou to life in prison for murdering seven family members on Christmas Day in 2021. The court also added 90 more years to his sentence, but all sentences will run at the same time, meaning he will stay in prison for life.
Ndou killed his relatives, including four children, at Jimmy Jones village near Malamulele, Limpopo. The court said the killings happened after a fight over who should own his late father's house.
During the sentencing, Judge Thogomelani Tshidada said Ndou showed no regret for what he did and never tried to apologize to his family. The judge also ruled that Ndou cannot own a gun in the future.
The victims of the shooting were:
Two-year-old Wanga Ndou
Four-year-old Ronewa Ndou
Eight-year-old Dakalo Makondo
Twelve-year-old Rendani Ndou
Donald Ndou
Ndivhuwo Ndou
Portia Chauke
All of them were shot in the head, and their bodies were found by another family member.
The court confirmed that Ndou was mentally stable and had no criminal record before the killings. However, during the sentencing, he shouted at the judge, calling the legal system a shame.
This case has shocked many people in South Africa.
