People who travel daily between Kampala and Mukono can now relax, as train services will start again on Monday, April 14, 2025.

Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) had stopped the trains for a short time on April 6, 2025, so that urgent repairs could be done. These repairs focused on fixing the railway embankment at Namanve.

In a new message shared on Saturday, URC confirmed that the repair work is now finished and the route is safe again for train use.

“Uganda Railways Corporation is happy to inform the public and our valued passengers that the line between Mukono and Kampala is now safe for train travel,” the statement read. “Train services will begin again on April 14, 2025, after full safety checks by our technical teams.”

The train system, which was brought back in June 2024, was praised by many for helping to reduce traffic jams and giving people a cheaper travel option. Since then, the trains have become very popular, with many passengers filling up the coaches from Mukono all the way to Namanve.

These commuter trains have made it easier and more affordable for people from all income levels to move between the two towns. Many now see the train as a smart and reliable way to avoid traffic and high transport costs.
