Museveni visits Juba to support Kiir amid South Sudan crisis and calls for peace after Machar's arrest sparks tensions.
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has arrived in Juba, the capital of South Sudan

President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has arrived in Juba, the capital of South Sudan. He was invited by South Sudanese President Salva Kiir. The visit is happening during a time of serious political trouble in the region.

Museveni confirmed his arrival through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). He said he looks forward to talking with Kiir to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between their two countries.

Although the official plan for the visit is not public, people close to the matter say that the leaders will probably talk about the peace deal in South Sudan, security issues, and Uganda’s recent military role in the country through Operation Mlinzi wa Kimya.

Museveni is seen as a close friend of President Kiir and has been part of peace efforts in the region for many years. He played a big role in the 2018 peace agreement that stopped the civil war in South Sudan.

His visit comes shortly after opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar was arrested earlier this week. This arrest has been strongly criticized by the African Union, the United Nations, and leaders in the region. It has also led to new violence in areas like Rejaf, Wunaliet, and Upper Nile State.

Many are worried that the situation could cause the country to fall back into war. UN officials have warned that taking actions without agreement from all sides could bring serious problems not only to South Sudan but to nearby countries as well. Both the African Union and the UN have asked all leaders to stay calm and focus on the well-being of South Sudanese citizens.

Uganda has always played an important role in South Sudan’s affairs. The Ugandan army (UPDF) has helped the government in Juba during past conflicts, including the 2013–2016 civil war.

At the same time, Raila Odinga, representing the regional group IGAD, visited Kiir earlier this week. He is expected to share a plan with other leaders on how to bring back peace.

The African Union has also sent its special group called the Panel of the Wise to help reduce tensions and encourage dialogue.

Many believe that Museveni’s presence in Juba is a sign that he is trying to help Kiir during this difficult time. International voices are calling for the release of Machar and for talks to restart so the peace process can continue.
