President Museveni ordered banks to stop deducting PDM funds
During the 39th Liberation Day event in Mubende District, President Yoweri Museveni instructed banks to stop taking any charges from the Parish Development Model (PDM) funds. He made it clear that each beneficiary should receive the full Shs1 million without deductions.
President Museveni was unhappy when he learned that banks were reducing the funds meant for Ugandans. He asked Mubende's Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Peter Ruhweeza, to explain how the money was being used and whether people were receiving their full payments.
"The government has put a lot of money into the Parish Development Model to help the economy grow. I need to know why our people are not getting the full amount," Museveni said.
Ruhweeza confirmed that Mubende District had received Shs16.4 billion, which was sent to Parish SACCOs for distribution. However, he admitted that banks were making deductions but did not specify the amount.
Fred Kisaakye, the PDM focal person in Mubende, later explained that banks were cutting Shs4,000 per transaction under a program called "WEENDI." This meant that instead of receiving Shs1 million, beneficiaries only got Shs996,000.
This information upset the locals, who accused officials of dishonesty. In response, President Museveni ordered an investigation into the matter and directed his security team to take complaints from the people.
"These deductions are illegal, and I want them to stop immediately. The government will cover any necessary charges so that people get their full money," Museveni announced, receiving cheers from the crowd.
He reassured the residents that he is committed to improving their lives and promised to return to Mubende to discuss more ways to fight poverty.
The Parish Development Model is an important program aimed at helping Ugandans improve their financial situation. President Museveni’s strong stance on ensuring that all funds reach the beneficiaries shows his dedication to solving community problems.
With investigations ongoing, stopping the deductions is expected to restore trust in the program and ensure that the money reaches those who need it without interference.
