Uganda’s State Minister for Investment, Evelyn Anite, says she is considering leaving politics. She says she is tired of spending huge amounts of money without seeing accountability.

Speaking in an interview with NTV Uganda, Anite revealed that she once spent UGX 500 million (about $135,000) in just one week on political activities in her area. She said this shows how expensive and unsustainable politics has become.

Anite has long spoken out against corruption and misuse of government funds. She recalled how, in the past, some ministers even blocked her from talking about corruption during a government retreat in Kyankwanzi. According to her, trying to fight corruption has not been easy.

Recently, Anite also traveled to the United States for a short, three-week study break. This came at a time when a Shs 28 billion bribery scandal was making headlines. Now, some people are wondering if her plan to step away from politics is connected to that case.

If Anite officially resigns, it could affect the government’s work in areas like privatization and attracting investment. However, her bold decision to speak up about reckless spending might also inspire other leaders and citizens to demand more transparency and accountability in public service.
