Makerere University Business School (MUBS) is preparing for its first-ever Cultural Gala, a special event meant to bring students from all over Africa together. The celebration will happen on Friday, April 4th, at the MUBS Main Pitch and will include music, fashion, dance, and different traditions from across the continent.

The event will feature top Ugandan artists like Fik Fameika and Vinka, who are expected to light up the stage. The gala is organized by the MUBS Ministry of Social Affairs and Entertainment, in partnership with the MUBS Guild and Coca-Cola. This is more than just a party—it’s a way to bring young Africans closer and help them celebrate their roots.

For the first time in MUBS history, a press conference was held to announce the event. HE Moses Amanya, the 27th Guild President of MUBS, shared his excitement:

“We’ve never had a press conference for a cultural gala before. This shows how big it will be. Culture is a gift from God, and we must celebrate it with pride.”

The event will not only highlight the diversity within Uganda, but also welcome traditions from students who come from Rwanda, Kenya, South Sudan, DR Congo, and more. They will showcase their cultures through storytelling, music, fashion shows, and traditional dances. According to Amanya:

“Even though MUBS is a business school, many students have talents that should be seen.”

Coca-Cola, one of the event’s main partners, is fully supporting the gala. Macklean Kukundakwe, Coca-Cola’s Country Lead Trade Marketing Manager and a proud MUBS alumna, said:

“Coca-Cola believes in the power of youth and culture. We’re here to uplift Gen Z as they show their creativity and talent.”She invited students to bring their friends:“Come with your gang, your crew, and we’ll create great memories together.”

The gala will also include a live video connection with Kenyatta University in Kenya, letting students from both schools enjoy and learn from each other’s performances. This connection shows the spirit of pan-Africanism—how Africa’s cultures are different, yet deeply connected.

Many students see this event as a chance to launch their dreams. Whether they want to be dancers, singers, or fashion designers, the stage gives them an opportunity to shine. Seeing big stars like Fik Fameika and Vinka will also inspire them to keep pushing forward.

The main goal of the gala is to bring people together through culture. It’s a reminder that even in a busy world, it’s important for young Africans to remember who they are and where they come from. The event isn’t just for fun—it’s a way to revive pride in African heritage.

As Kukundakwe explained, Coca-Cola’s role goes beyond drinks. The company wants to create a space where students can express themselves, support each other, and build something lasting through culture, music, and celebration.

So, on Friday, April 4th, all roads lead to the MUBS Main Pitch. Let’s support student talent, enjoy African music and dance, and be part of history. As Moses Amanya said:“Culture is a gift from God, and we should welcome it with open hearts.”
