FDC condemns Kawempe North by-election violence, calling it proof of NRM’s war on Ugandans and questioning how long citizens will endure repression.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has strongly condemned the violence that occurred during the Kawempe North by-election. The party claims that this event clearly shows that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government is waging a war against Ugandans.

In a statement shared on X, the FDC argued that the by-election revealed the true nature of the current government, which no longer tries to maintain the appearance of holding free and fair elections.

The party stated that the election was not about allowing people to choose their leaders but about the government using force to control the people of Kawempe and the entire country.

“For those who have been doubting that the NRM declared war on Ugandans, the Kawempe North By-election should be the ultimate confirmation that we are under siege by the junta,” the statement read.

The FDC also questioned how much longer Ugandans would endure what they see as an attack on their rights.

Reports from the by-election indicate incidents of violence, intimidation, and claims of electoral malpractice. These concerns have drawn attention from opposition leaders and human rights activists.
