Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Mr. Joel Ssenyonyi, has reported that Edward Ssebufu, better known as Eddie Mutwe, was kidnapped by armed men in Mukono. Mutwe is the chief civilian bodyguard of Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.
Ssenyonyi strongly condemned the incident, warning that the continued breakdown of the rule of law in Uganda should worry every citizen who believes in justice, democracy, and human rights.
According to reports, Mutwe was taken by unknown individuals using a drone van at Kiwango village. Bobi Wine, who recently announced he will run against President Museveni in the 2026 elections, also condemned the abduction.
By the time of this report, the police had not yet issued any official statement about Mutwe’s disappearance. The opposition and the public are demanding immediate answers and action from the authorities.
Mutwe has been arrested several times before and faced charges like treason and illegal possession of ammunition. Opposition leaders claim these charges are politically motivated to silence those who oppose the government.
Cases of enforced disappearances and violent arrests of opposition supporters have become common in Uganda, especially before, during, and after the 2021 elections. Many victims have reportedly been tortured or dumped in remote areas.

In another development, police have blocked the National Unity Platform's (NUP) weekly press conference that was scheduled for Monday, April 28, 2025, at their headquarters in Kampala. Authorities claimed the action was taken to maintain public order.
An unsigned police statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) warned against launching the youth protest vote and banned all related gatherings and mobilizations.
Bobi Wine criticized the police move, calling it unfair and politically biased. He urged Ugandans to resist the growing double standards and suppression of opposition political activities across the country.
