EcoBank Uganda has started a new partnership with SurePay, a digital payment company, to make paying school fees easier and more organized in Uganda. The launch event was held at Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala and welcomed many teachers, school heads, and staff members.
This partnership offers a free, secure, and easy-to-use platform for schools, students, and parents to manage school fees. It works for both EcoBank customers and non-customers, giving everyone a chance to use digital payments.
Elizabeth Mwerinde Kassedde, the Head of Commercial Banking at EcoBank Uganda, said this move will improve customer service and help schools handle money better. She said, “We are focusing on making digital payments easier and more helpful for the education sector.”
The platform includes tools that update student records in real time and help schools keep track of payments automatically. It also gives schools more chances to get loans and grow. EcoBank has promised to give up to UGX 1 billion to help schools expand their facilities or manage their daily operations. Special financial support will also be available for women-owned schools.
Grace Muriisa, Managing Director of EcoBank Uganda, said supporting education helps the whole country. “When people are educated, they can make better decisions, support others, and help grow the economy,” she explained.
EcoBank and SurePay hope to bring 300 new schools into the banking system this year. By combining their skills and resources, they believe they can make a bigger difference in the education sector.
Moses Okiror, the CEO of SurePay, thanked EcoBank for working with them. “Our goal is to help digitalize all schools in Uganda using EcoBank,” he said. He explained that once a school opens an account with EcoBank, it can join the SurePay platform easily.
SurePay gives users many payment options, such as the Ecobank Mobile App, Quick Teller-Interswitch, over-the-counter services at EcoBank branches, and through ABC Agents across the country. This makes it more convenient for parents and guardians to pay school fees on time.
During the event, school representatives learned how SurePay can improve their work and build stronger relationships with parents.
This new move by EcoBank and SurePay is expected to bring long-term positive changes to how schools manage money in Uganda.
