At least 10 die in Easter Sunday bus crash on Mubende–Fort Portal road; many others injured in tragic accident.

What was meant to be a joyful Easter Sunday ended in sadness after a terrible bus accident along the Mubende–Fort Portal highway claimed at least ten lives and left many others badly injured.

The accident happened on Sunday evening when a bus with registration number UBR 796N, commonly known as PokoPoko, reportedly suffered a front tire burst. Witnesses say the driver lost control, and the bus veered off the road, overturning into a ditch.

Ten passengers died on the spot, while many others were rushed to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital. Some of the injured are said to be in very serious condition, but the total number of people hurt is still not confirmed.

Photos from the scene show the bus lying overturned, with shattered glass and passengers' belongings spread around. Rescue teams and good Samaritans worked quickly to help the injured and recover the bodies, continuing efforts late into the evening.

Traffic police arrived soon after the crash and began investigating what caused the accident. While the tyre burst is believed to be the main reason, police say they are also checking for possible over-speeding or mechanical problems.

The tragic event has put a dark cloud over Easter celebrations for many families, and it has raised new concerns about road safety during holidays.

Authorities are urging all drivers to check their vehicles carefully before starting long journeys—especially during busy festive seasons when roads are more dangerous.

More updates will be shared once the full investigation is complete.
