The Kabaka of Buganda has brought together two important political leaders — Robert Kyagulanyi (known as Bobi Wine), head of the National Unity Platform (NUP), and Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga.
This surprise meeting happened during a cultural ceremony led by the Kabaka. Both men, who are Catholics and proud sons of Buganda, were seen standing close, smiling, and talking briefly. This is the first time they’ve appeared together in public since their political fallout last year.
Back in early 2023, Mpuuga, once a strong supporter of Bobi Wine and a big part of NUP’s success, had disagreements with the party. He was accused of misusing funds and disagreed with the party's direction in Parliament. This caused a big split, and the tension lasted for months.
But now, the Kabaka seems to have stepped in as a peacemaker. Many believe his influence helped create this chance for the two leaders to reconnect. Their peaceful interaction has given hope to NUP supporters who want unity and strength in the opposition.

Even though Bobi Wine and Mpuuga haven’t made any official comments, political experts think this moment could lead to better relations within the party. At the very least, it shows a sign of respect toward the Kabaka and the culture of Buganda.
Now, many are watching to see if this peaceful gesture will lead to real cooperation in Uganda’s politics.
