NBC Bank Supports Community Projects with New Health Center
DAR ES SALAAM—The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting development projects, especially in healthcare.
During the launch of the Kizimkazi Health Center in Zanzibar’s Kusini District, NBC Managing Director Theobald Sabi highlighted the bank's contribution of 400m/- to the 4.4bn/- project. Built in collaboration with the Samia Foundation and Ahmed Al Falas Foundation, the center will serve 13,000 residents in Kizimkazi and nearby areas, improving access to quality healthcare, particularly for mothers and children.
Mr. Sabi announced plans for a digital payment system at the center, including ATMs and POS terminals, to simplify payment processes. He emphasized NBC’s commitment to allocating part of its annual profits to community initiatives in health, education, and employment.
Former President Jakaya Kikwete praised the collaboration between private stakeholders and the government, calling it a model for accelerating national development. He urged leaders to maintain the center’s quality services and infrastructure.
Zanzibar’s Health Minister Nassor Ahmed Mazrui noted that the center aligns with the 61st anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution and will set a standard for future health facilities.
Local leaders, including MP Wanu Hafidh Ameir, highlighted the impact on women, reducing their fears about pregnancy due to the facility's proximity. Engineer Fatma Kara, Chairperson of the Samia Foundation, pledged to expand similar projects across the country.
