KILIMANJARO—Residents of Kilimanjaro have applauded the government for promoting inclusive education, ensuring all children, including those with disabilities, have equal learning opportunities.
The initiative, led by Deputy Minister Ummy Nderiananga, provides wheelchairs, school supplies, and learning materials to support children with disabilities. Deputy Minister Nderiananga emphasized President Samia Suluhu Hassan's commitment to quality education for all children, regardless of physical abilities.
She praised Moshi District Council for supporting people with disabilities and encouraged other councils to follow their example. She also urged parents to believe in the potential of their children with disabilities, highlighting funds allocated for learning tools, from primary to university levels.
A report by Moshi's Special Needs Education Officer, Innocent Kahoko, noted challenges like poor infrastructure and a lack of resources for staff with disabilities.
Separately, the Ministry of Education recently updated the 2025 academic calendar to align with the general elections, ensuring smooth learning schedules and balanced academic terms. The revised calendar runs from January 13 to July 8 for the first term, with adjustments to avoid disruptions during the election period.
