The much-awaited 2024 list of 100 Tanzanian Changemakers is out, celebrating leadership, creativity, and innovation. This special recognition honors individuals making a significant impact in various fields within Tanzania and beyond.


The list showcases influential figures shaping Tanzania’s future across sectors such as government, business, health, technology, media, academia, and entertainment.


Notable Figures in Leadership and Governance

Among the honorees is President Samia Suluhu Hassan, praised for her visionary reforms and efforts to unite the nation since taking office in 2021. She is also recognized for her contributions to economic diplomacy.


Zanzibar's First Vice President, Othman Masoud Othman, earned recognition for his dedication to governance and socio-economic transformation on the island. Similarly, Zanzibar’s First Lady, Mariam Mwinyi, has been commended for her work in advocating for gender equality and improving maternal health.


Private Sector Leaders and Innovators

Gilead Teri, Executive Director of the Tanzania Investment Centre, has been instrumental in promoting Tanzania as an attractive investment destination. Retired PwC Tanzania Country Senior Partner David Tarimo also made the list for his influence in shaping tax policy and fostering collaboration between public and private sectors.


Zahoro Muhaji, CEO of the Tanzania Startup Association, has been acknowledged for supporting innovation and creating opportunities for startups. Meanwhile, Zuweina Farah, Vodacom Tanzania’s External Affairs Director, stands out for her contributions to corporate leadership and external relations.


Contributions to Health and Science

Dr. Medard Ernest Kaiza, an immunologist at the University of Pittsburgh, is celebrated for his groundbreaking research on anti-tumor immunity, advancing cancer treatment.


Media Professionals Leading Change

In the media space, Salim Kikeke, co-founder of Crown Media and former BBC presenter, is recognized for his commitment to journalistic integrity and engaging storytelling. Jaqueline Lawrence, Director of Highlands FM Radio, has been bridging the information gap between rural and urban communities in southern Tanzania through innovative programming.


Mpoki Thomson, Acting Executive Editor of Mwananchi Communications Limited, and Fredrick Bundala, founder of Simulizi na Sauti, are also highlighted. Thomson has set new standards for credible journalism, while Bundala has transformed digital storytelling through his fast-growing YouTube channel.


Tech and Fintech Trailblazers

From the tech sector, Iain Usiri, co-founder and CEO of Ramani, has been recognized for developing a platform that enhances supply chain data visibility and helps resellers access financial services. Similarly, Prisca Magori, co-founder and CEO of Smart Efd, is honored for her innovative tax compliance solutions.


Annual Recognition of Impactful Individuals

The 100 Tanzanian Changemakers list is released each year by Serengeti Bytes, a strategic communications and digital marketing agency. This platform celebrates those driving transformative change and contributing to Tanzania’s development across diverse fields.
