Rio Ferdinand Criticizes Zirkzee as Man United Secure Narrow Win Over Rangers
Rio Ferdinand criticizes Joshua Zirkzee’s performance as Man United edge Rangers 2-1 in the Europa League.
Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, has criticized Joshua Zirkzee for his performance in Man United's 2-1 win over Rangers in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.
Ferdinand said the Dutch striker was "non-existent" for most of the game at Old Trafford. He also mentioned that the 23-year-old was not a real danger in front of the goal.
Zirkzee played well in linking up with teammates but only managed two shots and four touches inside Rangers’ penalty box before he was substituted for Rasmus Hojlund in the 82nd minute.
Former Scotland striker, Ally McCoist, commented during TNT Sports coverage:
"I think he’s done alright Zirkzee but I’ll say it again: I think from Manchester United’s point of view you’d like to see more of a goalscoring threat as well as he played."
Ferdinand added:
"I thought he was non-existent in the first half, to be honest, but he improved in the second half. He still wasn’t a real goal threat, but they got their goal in the end."
Man United secured the victory after Bruno Fernandes scored a late goal, giving Ruben Amorim’s team a narrow 2-1 home win.
