The prize money for the FIFA Club World Cup has reached $1 billion, with 25% of it going to clubs that don’t even participate in the tournament.
The competition will be held in a new format from June 14 to July 13, 2025, in the United States.
The winning team will receive $100 million, which is similar to the prize for winning the UEFA Champions League.
The exact amounts for each participating team haven’t been announced, but FIFA says they will be higher than usual.
FIFA also plans to share $2 billion among the participating clubs and others, including those not taking part.
European clubs are expected to earn more money because they attract more fans and won’t have time for pre-season preparations.
This is the first time the tournament will feature 32 teams, with 12 clubs from Europe, including Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Paris St-Germain, Inter Milan, Juventus, Atlético Madrid, Benfica, FC Porto, and FC Salzburg.
Africa will be represented by 4 clubs: Al-Ahly, Wydad AC, ES Tunis, and Mamelodi Sundowns. Asia and North/Central America will each send 4 clubs, while South America will have 6 clubs.
