Spanish footballer Nico Hidalgo has passed away at the age of 32 after a long battle with lung cancer.

His former clubs confirmed the heartbreaking news on Saturday.

Hidalgo started his career at Motril, making his senior debut in 2010 before joining Granada B in 2012.

In 2014, he signed with Juventus, but he never played for their first team. Instead, he was loaned back to Granada, then later to Cádiz, where he eventually signed a permanent deal in 2017. He also played for Racing Santander and Extremadura.

Hidalgo retired from football in 2022, a year after being diagnosed with cancer.

His former club Granada paid tribute, saying:

"With Nico’s departure, not only has an excellent footballer gone, but also a great person. The love of his teammates, coaches, and fans will always remain."

Cádiz also honored him, stating:

"We will never forget your smile and your joy. Your fight is our inspiration. Rest in peace."
