CAF Disqualifies Congo from CHAN 2024 in Shocking Verdict
CAF Disqualifies Congo from CHAN 2024 after violating player eligibility rules.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has removed Congo from the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). This decision came after a complaint from the Equatorial Guinea Football Federation (FEGUIFUT).
CAF's disciplinary board found that Congo used an ineligible player, Mankou Nguembete Japhet Elo, in both qualifying matches.
Because of this, CAF fined the Congolese Football Federation $10,000. Now, Equatorial Guinea will join the Home Eagles, defending champions Senegal, and Sudan in Group D for CHAN 2024.
CHAN is a tournament for players from their home countries' local leagues. The 2024 edition will take place in August, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
