Raheem Sterling has opened up about his decision to leave Chelsea and join Arsenal on loan this summer, citing Mikel Arteta’s team unity and winning mentality as key factors in his choice.

The England international completed a surprising loan transfer between the two London rivals in the final moments of the European transfer window. Sterling, who has previously played for Liverpool and Manchester City, will spend the remainder of the 2024-25 season at Arsenal.

Sterling’s departure comes after Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who joined the Blues from Leicester City this summer, informed the 29-year-old that he was no longer part of the first-team plans at Stamford Bridge. With limited time to find a new club, Sterling swiftly secured his move to Arsenal.

In a video shared on Arsenal’s social media channels, Sterling expressed his excitement about the new chapter in his career.

“People like to talk, don’t they? Well so do I,”

Sterling said.

“And I’ll say this—you’re about to see the best of me. It’s an unbelievable feeling. I’m buzzing.”

Sterling highlighted the strong camaraderie within the Arsenal squad as a major attraction.

“It’s one where we kind of left it late, but it’s one I was hoping for. Looking at everything, I’m just like, ‘This is a perfect fit for me,’ and I’m super happy we got it over the line.”

He also praised Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, and acknowledged the progress under Arteta’s leadership.

“I spoke with Edu, and you can see the real togetherness from Mikel’s time here. You see the journey the boys are on, the hunger, and the togetherness—something I’m excited to be a part of.”
