Jose Mourinho has commented on Manchester United's decision to terminate Sir Alex Ferguson's ambassadorial contract. Mourinho pointed out that Ferguson's rapport with United's fans is more significant than any formal role at the club.
Ferguson, who retired as Manchester United's manager in 2013, had been serving in a role that paid about £2 million per year. This contract was ended following new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's decision.
Mourinho, currently the manager of Fenerbahce, expressed deep respect for Ferguson and suggested that his upcoming Netflix documentary would shed more light on their relationship.
"The ambassadorial role, I don’t know in depth the situation. But it doesn’t matter why, it doesn’t matter what, Sir Alex has the most important thing of all, the love and respect of every Manchester United fan around the world,"
Mourinho explained. He emphasized that Ferguson's widespread admiration is more valuable than any official title or financial benefit.
