Libya stuns Rwanda with a late goal at the newly constructed Amahoro Stadium, despite the Amavubi dominating most of the match.
Libya secured a 1-0 win over Rwanda in their Group D AFCON Qualifier match held at the newly constructed Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on November 14, 2024. The match was a disappointment for the Amavubi, who dominated the game for the first 80 minutes but conceded a late goal in the final 10 minutes.
Rwanda controlled much of the game, creating chances and holding possession. However, their inability to convert opportunities cost them dearly. Libya’s F. Al-Mesmary scored the decisive goal in the 84th minute, taking advantage of a lapse in Rwanda’s defense.
The game saw several yellow cards, with Rwanda’s T. Manzi booked in the 76th minute and Libya’s M. A. Wuheeshi and A. Saleh cautioned earlier in the match.
This loss leaves Rwanda in third place in Group D with 3 points from five matches, while Libya moves level on points but remains fourth due to goal difference. Nigeria leads the group with 10 points, followed by Benin with 6. Rwanda will need to address their missed chances and defensive weaknesses as their qualification campaign nears its end.
