China Gives Cultural Center to the University of Juba
The Chinese government has handed a modern cultural and language center to the University of Juba. The center includes an advanced classroom that can hold 40 students. It aims to teach Chinese language, arts, and culture.
At the ceremony, China's Ambassador to South Sudan, MA Qiang, shared his excitement about the center, which also acts as China's cultural hub at the university. He said the facility would promote cultural exchange and strengthen the bond between China and South Sudan.
“It is an honor to attend the opening of the E-classroom, which serves as a cultural center here at the University of Juba,” MA said. “The university’s motto, ‘Relevance and Excellence,’ is inspiring.”
He praised the university for its role in South Sudan’s education and growth, calling it the country’s top institution of higher learning. MA shared a Chinese saying: “The best work of a century is raising people.”
Professor Robert Mayom Deng, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, thanked China for the donation, noting that the university did not request it.
“In May 2023, the Chinese Embassy offered to give us this solar-powered classroom as a cultural center. We accepted happily. We thought it would take two to four months, but it took longer. Today, we celebrate its completion,” he said.
Professor Mayom urged students to use the facility, which includes 40 desks, an interactive screen, solar lighting, and air conditioning.
“This is a unique classroom, offering both comfort and functionality,” he said. “I encourage our students to use it fully to improve their learning and skills.”
