Police in Lakes State reported that peace has returned to Aliet cattle camp in Yirol East County after violent clashes in December 2024, which left 9 people dead and 6 injured.

Major Elijah Mabor Makuac, the state police spokesperson, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that security forces stepped in to stop the fighting.

"Peace has been restored in Yirol East after security forces took control of the situation. Police are still investigating, and all suspects will be held accountable," he said.

The clashes, which happened last Monday morning, involved the Pan Awuol and Panthier sections of Naam fighting over ownership of the Aliet cattle camp. Major Mabor added that local authorities are helping trace the suspects.

The injured are receiving treatment at Yirol Hospital, though health officials have not yet provided updates on their condition.

Efforts to get a comment from Yirol East County Commissioner Manyang Luk Lueth were unsuccessful.
