Rwanda's national basketball team has been included among the 16 African teams set to compete for a spot in the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers. The qualification games will begin in November 2025.

In Africa, the teams will first participate in the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket, which will take place in Angola from August 12-14, 2025. The tournament will determine which teams advance to the World Cup qualification rounds.

Alongside Rwanda, the other 15 African nations competing are: Angola, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Guinea, Libya, Madagascar, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, South Sudan, Tunisia, and Uganda.

Global Qualification Process

The 2027 Basketball World Cup qualifiers will feature 80 teams worldwide. The Americas and Asia-Oceania will each contribute 16 teams, while Europe will have the largest representation with 32 teams. The draw to determine the matchups is scheduled for May 2025.

The last FIBA Basketball World Cup was won by Germany, which defeated Serbia 83-77 in the final. In that tournament, Africa was represented by South Sudan and Cape Verde, both making their debut, alongside Egypt, Angola, and Côte d'Ivoire.

The 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup will be held in Qatar from August 27 to September 12, 2027.
