The Ugandan minister in charge of the state of relations in the DRC, Matata Twaha, was summoned to Kinshasa on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, by Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Francophonie.
On Tuesday, December 17, the Chief of Staff of the Ugandan Armed Forces (UPDF) general Kainerugaba issued a clear warning against the DRC via his Twitter account.
The Ugandan diplomat was called to provide clarification regarding recent posts made by Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. These comments, described as "inappropriate," prompted concern from the Congolese state.
"A tense situation has emerged once again between Uganda and the DRC. Immediate clarification is needed from Ugandan authorities on their position concerning the war in the East and the state of bilateral relations," declared the Minister of State to the Chargé d'Affaires.
According to the communications unit of the ministry, this issue highlights the urgency of addressing the diplomatic strain between the two nations.
