Singer Kelly Khumalo was identified as a potential sixth suspect in the investigation into Senzo Meyiwa's murder, according to the lead investigator.

The investigation suggested that Khumalo may have orchestrated the killing as a planned contract hit. Meyiwa was fatally shot a decade ago at Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus. Five men are currently facing charges for his murder.

Lead investigator Gininda indicated that confessions implicated Khumalo in the plot. Although a warrant for her arrest was sought in November 2020, it was never approved.

During his cross-examination, Gininda was questioned about an affidavit he submitted as part of the arrest application for Khumalo.

The court also heard about communication between Khumalo and accused number three, Mthobisi Mncube.

Additionally, it was revealed that Khumalo had communicated with accused number five, Fisokuhle Ntuli, in the weeks leading up to Meyiwa’s death. Ntuli is alleged to have coordinated the hit, while Mncube is suspected to be the shooter.

Gininda also cited cellphone evidence linking Khumalo to Mncube.
