The Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African National Congress (ANC) are close to finalizing cabinet negotiations in South Africa. Despite previous disagreements, both parties remain dedicated to forming a stable government.

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa and DA Leader John Steenhuisen solidify their coalition with a handshake, paving the way for a unified government in South Africa

South Africa's Democratic Alliance (DA) is committed to finalizing cabinet negotiations with President Cyril Ramaphosa's African National Congress (ANC). Despite reports of potential collapse due to disagreements over the trade and industry portfolio, both parties are determined to reach an agreement.

A senior ANC official stated that coalition discussions are "almost done," while DA leader John Steenhuisen emphasized the importance of a stable government where the DA can play a meaningful role. This coalition allowed Ramaphosa to secure a second term after the ANC lost its parliamentary majority.

ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula reassured the public that negotiations are nearing completion. Financial markets responded positively, with the rand strengthening on optimism. The dispute arose from Ramaphosa retracting an offer to the DA for the trade and industry ministry, which is key to boosting Black South Africans' economic participation.

Despite the challenges, the DA is expected to stay in the unity government to demonstrate its commitment to making an impact. The finalization of these negotiations will indicate the future dynamics of South Africa's government.
