Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye is set to visit France on Wednesday, 18 June, Marking his first official trip outside of Africa since his inauguration in April 2024.

During his visit, President Faye will participate in the Global Forum for Vaccine Sovereignty and Innovation, where he will discuss the importance of African nations having more control over their health crises. The event is co-organized by the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI) and the African Union.

President Faye's visit to France comes at a time when the French government is reducing the number of soldiers stationed in West and Central African nations, including Senegal. This move is seen as a step towards greater independence for African countries, aligning with President Faye's stance on sovereignty.

The visit also includes a lunch with French President Emmanuel Macron, which is expected to be a significant meeting between the two leaders. This meeting could potentially strengthen the relationship between Senegal and France, while also addressing the issues of foreign military presence and economic ties.

As part of his visit, President Faye will also meet with representatives of the Senegalese community in France. This interaction will provide an opportunity for the President to connect with Senegalese expatriates and discuss their concerns and aspirations.

President Faye's visit to France is a testament to Senegal's commitment to strengthening its diplomatic relations and promoting its interests on the global stage.
