Addis Ababa, May 26, 2024  – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced that preparations for this year’s Green Legacy planting season are well underway. Planting sites are being readied and seedlings continuously cultivated.

"Our annual program, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, combating climate change, reversing deforestation, and reducing land degradation, involves communities, schools, and organizations working together to plant billions of trees," Abiy shared on social media.

Launched in June 2019, the Green Legacy Initiative is a flagship program of Prime Minister Abiy. Ethiopia has planted 32.5 billion tree saplings nationwide under this initiative, with a target to plant 50 billion trees by 2026.
