Addis Ababa, June 8, 2024 - Ethiopia and Tanzania are reinforcing their longstanding partnership to address multifaceted peace and security challenges, according to Tanzania's Defense and National Service Minister, Stergomena Lawrence Tax.
Minister Tax emphasized the enduring cooperation between the two nations and their commitment to enhancing their strategic partnership. She revealed that both countries have signed and are actively implementing a memorandum of understanding and action plan on peace and security.
"As two friendly nations, we collaborate not only at the national level but also contribute to continental and international initiatives," Minister Tax stated. Her recent discussions with Ethiopian Defense Minister Aisha Mohammed were described as "very fruitful."
The minister highlighted various joint efforts, including training programs and educational exchanges.
"We are satisfied with our collaboration. We conduct joint training; some of our officers are in Ethiopia, and we have pilots studying here. Similarly, Ethiopian officers are also receiving training in Tanzania," she added.
Despite the progress, Minister Tax acknowledged that there is more work to be done.
"We have assessed the progress and are satisfied, but we recognize that this is not enough," she concluded.
This ongoing partnership between Ethiopia and Tanzania underscores their shared commitment to addressing regional security challenges and contributing to broader peace initiatives.
