As the first African story from Disney, "Iwájú" is a testament to the power of representation. Cultural consultant Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku's characters serve as beacons of imagination and diversity, inviting viewers to explore, learn, and be inspired by the rich tapestry of African storytelling.

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Disney partners with African entertainment company Kugali to create "Iwájú," the first African animated series to hit the Disney platform. What started as a bold statement from Kugali co-founder Hamid Ibrahim turned into a remarkable journey of collaboration.

"Iwájú" transports viewers to a futuristic Nigeria, offering a vibrant yet honest portrayal of Lagos. Director Ziki Nelson emphasizes the show's commitment to reflecting both the beauty and challenges of modern-day Lagos, including themes like pay disparity.

While bridging cultures presented its challenges, the collaboration between Disney and Kugali has proven to be a fusion of strengths, resulting in a series that celebrates the best of both worlds.

Marlon West, renowned for his work on Disney classics like "The Lion King" and "Moana," found "Iwájú" irresistible, drawn to its blend of science fiction, African setting, crime narrative, and Afrobeat music.

For cultural consultant Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku, "Iwájú" represents a pivotal moment. It's not just about storytelling; it's about providing a diverse and imaginative landscape for children to explore, learn, and be inspired.

With "Iwájú," Disney takes a bold step into uncharted territory, setting the stage for a new era of storytelling and representation on a global scale.
