Ulrich Chomche, a standout basketball talent from Cameroon, achieved a significant milestone by being selected 57th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2024 NBA Draft. Representing NBA Academy Africa in Saly, Senegal, Chomche's selection marks the first instance of an NBA Academy Africa prospect being drafted directly into the NBA, setting a precedent for the league's academies in Senegal, Mexico, and Australia.

Chomche's basketball journey began when he joined NBA Academy Africa in 2019 at the age of 14. He competed in various high-profile international events and represented Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and Cameroon’s Forces Armées et Police (FAP) in the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

His impressive performance caught the attention of scouts, leading to his historic draft selection. Additionally, he represented Cameroon’s national team in the 2023 FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament and played for the World Team at the 2024 Nike Hoop Summit.

Adem Bona, a Nigerian centre, was taken 41st by the Philadelphia 76ers and will back up Cameroonian star Joel Embiid. This draft also marked a first for Cameroon, with two players being selected.

Bronny James, the 19-year-old son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, was selected 55th overall by the Lakers. LeBron James has expressed a desire to play alongside his son, potentially creating the first father-son combination in NBA history.

Bronny, a guard for the University of Southern California, averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists last season. Despite suffering cardiac arrest last July due to a congenital heart defect, he has been cleared to play and is seen as a top defensive prospect.

The 2024 NBA Draft also featured international prospects like France’s Zaccharie Risacher, who was taken first overall by the Atlanta Hawks, and several others who were picked early in the second round, including Australian swingman Johnny Furphy and Spanish guard Juan Nunez.

These selections highlight the global reach and impact of the NBA, showcasing the league's commitment to developing talent from around the world.
