President William Ruto and Raila Odinga
President William Ruto and Raila Odinga have officially agreed to work together through a new deal that brings the Kenya Kwanza coalition and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party together in government.
The agreement, called ‘Understanding to resolve the social and political challenges facing Kenyans,’ focuses on 10 key issues affecting the country.
These include ensuring the full implementation of the NADCO report, promoting inclusivity in public affairs, strengthening devolution, protecting the rights of young people, ensuring leadership with integrity, defending the right to peaceful protests, addressing national debt, fighting corruption, stopping wastage of public resources, improving government efficiency, and upholding the rule of law and constitutionalism.
ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna emphasized that this agreement is meant to solve the long-standing political crisis in Kenya that has slowed down development.
“Kenya has faced a long period of political crisis that has hampered development. H.E. Ruto and Raila, as leaders of the largest parties, acknowledge the need for a broad platform to collaborate and address these long-standing challenges,” Sifuna said.
At the same time, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary-General Hassan Omar criticized public servants for living lavishly and acting arrogantly.
“Kenyans are concerned by the opulence and arrogant conduct of public officers, coupled with impunity. It’s crucial that public servants’ demeanour reflects the dignity of their offices and the respect owed to the citizens of Kenya,” Omar said.
This agreement marks a significant political shift as both leaders seek to work together to address Kenya’s major challenges.
