A tragic accident occurred on Thursday, March 13, when a vehicle in President William Ruto’s motorcade hit and killed a foreign national along Ngong Road near Adams Arcade in Nairobi.

The victim, described as an elderly white man, was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a speeding government vehicle.

How Did the Accident Happen?

Eyewitnesses reported that the foreigner appeared unaware of the fast-moving convoy as he tried to cross the busy road. The vehicle did not slow down or stop after the impact.

Bystanders rushed to help, but the man had already died at the scene. Videos shared online showed his body covered with a Maasai leso. His remains were later moved to the City Mortuary for an autopsy.

Following the accident, the National Police Service (NPS) announced they had started investigations. In a public statement, the police asked Kenyans to provide any information that could help with the case.

However, many Kenyans reacted angrily on social media, questioning why the police asked for information when they knew the vehicle belonged to the president’s motorcade. Some criticized the authorities for not taking immediate action against those responsible.

One online commenter pointed out that the presidential convoy always has an ambulance, yet no help was given to the victim. Others demanded that the president’s handlers be questioned.

Chaos During Ruto’s Tour

The accident happened during President Ruto’s four-day tour of Nairobi. On the same day, there were reports of police violence in Kibra, where officers were seen beating up youths who tried to enter Ayany Primary School, where Ruto was speaking.

Days earlier, rowdy youths had caused chaos along Thika Road, Juja Road, and Outer Ring Road, attacking motorists and passengers. The police were forced to fire warning shots to control the situation.

Due to the rising tension, President Ruto ended his tour early and returned to the State House.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, with many Kenyans demanding accountability from the government.
