Caleb Amisi, the Member of Parliament for Saboti Constituency, has publicly urged former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to leave his partnership with President William Ruto's administration and run for president in the 2027 elections.

In a post on his X account dated Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Amisi expressed his belief that aligning with the current government has not been beneficial for Raila. He emphasized that previous administrations, which Raila supported, failed to support his rise to power.

Amisi recalled how Raila backed the government of the late Mwai Kibaki under the Nusu Mkate power-sharing deal but did not receive support to succeed Kibaki. He also noted Raila's cooperation with Uhuru Kenyatta during Kenyatta's second term, which similarly did not lead to Raila becoming president.

Furthermore, Amisi pointed out that President Ruto has not supported Raila in securing the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC), indicating a continuation of this trend.

"The deep state of the nusu mkate; Kibaki/Raila government never made Baba president, the deep state of the Uhuru government never gave Baba the presidency, and the very deep deep state of the Ruto government has not given Baba an AUC position," Amisi stated.

Highlighting the 2007 elections, Amisi argued that Raila nearly won the presidency when he ran independently of any governmental support. He suggests that for Raila to succeed in the 2027 elections, he should sever ties with the government by February 2026 and rely solely on public support.

“But the people of Kenya, without the deep state, gave Raila the presidency in 2008 that was snatched away at night in the old constitution. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Baba must leave the deep state at the latest by February 2026 and experience the wonderful results. In the new constitutional order, a deep state is moribund, and the sovereign power of the people reigns supreme,” Amisi wrote on X.
