Sengabo Jean Bosco, also known as Fatakumavuta, was arrested by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) on charges related to divisive language in entertainment, use of profanity, and disturbing public order through social media.
RIB spokesperson Dr. Murangira B. Thierry confirmed the arrest, which took place on October 18, 2024. Fatakumavuta is currently being held at the Kacyiru RIB Station. According to Dr. Murangira's interview with IGIHE, the arrest followed several warnings and advisories that were not heeded by the accused.
There have also been public calls for the RIB to arrest another individual who goes by the name KASUKU and he is accused of using offensive language against opponents of the Rwandan government. Social media users have expressed concerns over what they perceive as a double standard, calling on authorities to apply the law equally.
Dr. Murangira highlighted the need for responsible social media use, pointing out the government's investment in digital infrastructure aimed at fostering positive online engagement. He emphasized that legal action will be taken against anyone who misuses these platforms, stating that the law applies equally to all, regardless of their intentions or whom they target.
