Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claims he warned President William Ruto against involving the Adani Group in Kenya. Speaking at AIPCA Kangari Church in Murang’a, Gachagua said he had cautioned the president about the risks, asserting that Kenyans opposed the deal.
“I told President Ruto the Adani deal was shady and the people did not want it,” he said.
Gachagua denied accusations of opposing government projects, which he claimed led to his impeachment. “It was said I disrespected the President because I questioned certain decisions,” he added.
The former deputy president also encouraged the church to speak out against societal issues.
On November 21, President Ruto canceled the Adani Group’s planned takeover of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and a deal with the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco). In his State of the Nation address, Ruto cited corruption concerns, supported by evidence from local and international agencies.
“Faced with credible information on corruption, I will not hesitate to act,” Ruto declared, directing ministries to onboard new partners for critical projects while adhering to transparency principles outlined in Article 10 of the Constitution.
