Germany suspends new development aid to Rwanda
Xtrafrica: Germany has decided to stop giving new financial help to Rwanda because of its support for the M23 rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The German government said it will also reduce cooperation with Rwanda and review existing projects.
Germany told Rwanda about this decision in advance and made it clear that the European Union wants Rwanda to withdraw its soldiers and stop helping M23. But will Kagame listen? Probably not. He has always ignored criticism and continues to interfere in Congo’s affairs.
Germany joins the growing list of countries punishing Kagame’s government. Britain has already stopped most direct aid, and Canada has placed sanctions on Rwanda. Yet, Kagame still denies any wrongdoing, even though clear evidence shows Rwanda’s army is fighting alongside M23.
According to a UN report, about 4,000 Rwandan troops are in eastern Congo, backing M23 as they take over cities and key territories. The rebels now control North Kivu and South Kivu, home to vast mineral resources. These minerals are critical for global industries, and Kagame knows it. That’s why he won’t stop.
Germany’s development ministry says Rwanda must respect Congo’s borders and sovereignty. But does Kagame care about that? No. He keeps pretending that Rwanda is only protecting itself while his army and M23 terrorize eastern Congo.
The world is finally waking up. Countries are cutting financial support, but will it be enough to stop Kagame? Until stronger action is taken, Rwanda will continue its dirty game in Congo, stealing resources, spreading war, and pretending to be innocent.
