Congo Prepares to Host First-Ever National AI Symposium in Kinshasa

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is getting ready to take a major step forward in technology by organizing its first National Symposium on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The event, recently approved by the Council of Ministers, will be held in Kinshasa and will focus on how Congo can use AI to boost its economy, improve cybersecurity, and become a stronger player in global tech discussions.
A Four-Day AI Forum for the Future
The theme of the event is:
“Artificial Intelligence and its Global Expansion: Opportunities and Threats in Cyber Defense, International Cooperation, Education, and Jobs in a Country Rich in Natural Resources.”
This 4-day symposium will include panel discussions on over 15 topics related to AI, from ethical tech to its effect on jobs and education.
The symposium is being led by the Minister Delegate in charge of International Cooperation and Francophonie, who believes this is the right time for Congo to shape its own AI future.
She told the Council:
“We must decide how we want to bring this revolution into our society and under what conditions AI should be used in our country.”
She also reminded leaders about the commitments made at the 2024 Francophonie Summit in France, especially the call to use AI and digital technology to promote peace and security in the French-speaking world.
The minister made it clear: AI brings challenges cybersecurity risks, job losses, and fair access to technology. But with the right planning, Congo can turn these challenges into opportunities.
She called on both national and international partners to join Congo in building a future of AI that is ethical, inclusive, and transparent.
Right now, Congo is working with experts to finalize the budget, topics, and guest lists. A full report will soon be submitted to the top authorities for approval.
Through this AI symposium, Congo is not just boosting its digital plan it’s also sending a strong message to the world: “We are ready. We are capable. And we are here to lead in tech.”
From being known for its minerals, Congo now wants to be known for its innovation and intelligence.
