Congo–USA Deal Could End Kagame’s Rule, Bring Peace

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is full of natural wealth. It has some of the world’s most important minerals like cobalt, lithium, and uranium. These are the materials used to make batteries, phones, electric cars, and even weapons. But for years, the people of Congo have remained poor while others got rich.
Why?
Because powerful people, including Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, have been accused of stealing Congo’s minerals. Rwanda is believed to support rebel groups that bring war to eastern Congo. These groups take over mining areas, and the minerals are smuggled out, and sold to countries like China, Qatar, and Europe, while Congolese children work in dangerous mines and families suffer in poverty.

A New Hope: President Tshisekedi’s U.S. Partnership
But now, something could change. Congo’s President Félix Tshisekedi is starting a new partnership with the United States.
America’s new Africa advisor, Massad Boulos, just visited Congo. He said the U.S. agrees with Congo’s plan for a fair mineral deal, one that benefits both countries. The U.S. wants peace and economic growth for Congo. They also want Congo’s help in securing critical minerals but this time, with transparency, jobs, and justice for the Congolese people.
“I look forward to building a deeper relationship,” said Boulos. “This is for the prosperity of both our countries.”
This is not just about mining — it’s about changing the future of Congo.

Kagame Is Worried - And He Should Be
This new deal is a big threat to Kagame. His economy has depended on stealing from Congo. For years, he has supported violence to keep Congo weak. But if the U.S. works directly with Congo, that means:
No more smuggling of minerals
No more war funded by stolen resources
No more China taking everything in shady deals
Instead, Congo will finally get its share. Schools, roads, hospitals and all paid for by Congo’s own minerals.
A Message to the World: Congo Deserves Peace
Tshisekedi is showing courage. He is standing up to foreign control and corrupt leaders inside Congo. Some people, like former President Kabila or politician Moïse Katumbi, became rich from these deals while the people stayed poor.
This U.S. deal can stop that.
It brings hope for peace, jobs for youth, and dignity for every Congolese citizen.
It also gives America a strong partner in Africa to fight terrorism, protect borders, and secure clean mineral supply chains.
