On International Women's Day, Burundian women were celebrated for their vital role in the country’s socio-economic and political life.
Bubanza, March 8, 2025 – The Sacred Drum, Karyenda, known as Mukakaryenda when represented by a woman, symbolizes the essence of the Burundian kingdom’s existence. Throughout history, Mukakaryenda has highlighted the significance of women in Burundian culture.
On this day, the Bubanza Stadium was alive with celebrations. President Evariste Ndayishimiye and First Lady Angéline Ndayubaha attended the event, emphasizing the importance of women in the nation’s growth and development.
Led by Minister Imelda Sabushimike, the festivities began with an impressive parade of women from all walks of life—civilian, police, and military. Dressed in traditional attire and uniforms, the participants proudly displayed their commitment to advancing the country.
The event also offered a moment for women to reflect on their achievements and their impact within their communities.
